New year has always the time looking back the past, and more importantly, forward to the coming year. About half American adults say they are at least somewhat likely to make a New Year’s resolution this year. As augmented reality, image processing, and video sharing become more commonplace, we definitely don’t want crappy camera phones anymore. I made some New Year resolutions for camera phones (more specifically iPhone) in 2010.

1. More megapixels
Current iPhones only has up to 3 megapixels camera. Although megapixel count isn’t the only factor that matters when it comes to image quality, 3 megapixels is not enough for any high-end smartphone today. Rumors emerged suggest the debut of an all-new model iPhone, equipped with 5 megapixels camera, could coincide with the currently mooted WWDC 2010 event in June.

2. Free live video streaming API
Earlier last month, Apple has announced to allow developers using private API for screen capture. But without opening up public APIs to access to the live video stream from camera, better augmented reality apps can hardly be enabled.

3. Camera flash
It’s ridiculous that there’s still no flash for 3GS, the camera is useless at low light scenes.

4. Front facing camera
With the newest update of Fring, a free chat/social networking application, made it possible for video calls. You will be able to see what the person on the other end of the call is wearing – with a front facing camera.

5. Better battery life / OLED screen
I think this one must be on everyone’s list.

Certainly there are plenty of other things can be improved by Apple with the coming iPhone in 2010, but now we want to hear your voice. What would be your top five wishes about camera phones in 2010? Let us know down in the comments.
