Best Video Recording Apps for Your iPhone 3G and 2G

by Claris Li on January 21, 2010

Since Apple has approved a video recording app for 3G iVideoCamera last month, now both your iPhone 3G and iPhone 2G can shoot video, without jailbreak.

You have few options so far.

1. iCamcorder

iCamcorder has just released its new version 1.5 recently, it comes with

  • digital zoom 1x, 2x, 4x
  • REAL-TIME effects: Black/White filter, Old Movie Effect, Motions Trails, Inverted Colors and Bloom.
  • Landscape and Portrait recording
  • 10-15 fps
  • Share options: Facebook, Youtube, Email

Other unedited sample videos with digital zoom and effects are available at http://camcorderapp.dw-c.de.

Cost: $0.99

2. Qik VideoCamera

Qik is famous for its live streaming apps that allow users to broadcast their video directly from their phones to the web. Their live streaming app Qik Live for iPhone just released last month.

Notable features I liked:

  • 15 fps under good lighting condition
  • Real-time effects: B&W (w/Red filter), Fun-house Mirror, Color change filter
  • Share options: Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Brightcove and Qik.com, SMS, camera roll
  • Landscape and Portrait recording
  • digital zoom

Here’s a demo the Qik app’s video quality, recorded using an iPhone 3G from TechCrunch:

Cost: $0.99

3. Cycorder

Cycorder’s been one of the best reasons to jailbreak iPhones since the beginning, and it still makes a convincing argument. Video quality is fine, with up to 15 FPS under good lighting conditions.

Cost: Free
