If I were to ask you: Have you ever used Mobile Web? The answer would probably be yes.
According to a new Quantcast Mobile Trend Report, the Mobile Web usage grew 110% in the U.S. in 2009 and 148% worldwide.
How does Quantcast measure up?
Quantcast uses a measurement pixel embedded in the HTML of a webpage that causes visitors’ web browsers to request content from a Quantcast measurement server.
Here are a few other highlights from the report:
- Apple continues to dominate, though market share has declined as increased competition emerges
- Android supports over 12% of North American mobile web pageviews, overtaking RIM’s Blackberry
- Motorola’s Android based Droid is the most impressive market entry since the iPhone and is largely responsible for a 10x improvement in Motorola’s North American mobile web share
It is clear that Android is gaining stream fast in North America, this sudden growth of Android jives with AdMob data – the number of request from Android devices doubled in just two months between October and December last year.
I think Safari does a very good job at making browsing the web on the iPhone much like it does on a full computer. As we expect to use our mobile phones to do more on the web, in order to stay competitive, RIM, or any other phones, definitely needs better browser experience quickly.
